The Styling Direction
Sophie explains:
“The overall styling direction for the shoot centred around creating a layered, editorial feel that still felt relaxed and natural within the venue. We wanted the spaces to feel immersive and atmospheric rather than overly ‘set styled’.”
Wedding Florals & Flower Varieties
“The floral designs focused heavily on texture, movement and tonal layering rather than very structured traditional arrangements. We incorporated a mixture of green and white florals with softer seasonal textures to complement the architecture of the venue and keep the overall look feeling timeless. Pops of deep wine through the Cala Lilies added interest, and each rose and tulip was reflexed to show them off in a modern style, rather than classic.”
Varieties used in the shoot included:
- Hydrangea
- Roses
- Delphinium
- Seasonal foliage, amaranthus and trailing greens
- Textural filler florals for movement and softness
“The floral styling intentionally avoided overly tight or symmetrical arrangements. Instead, we leaned into a more architectural and naturally gathered style, which is something we’re seeing couples increasingly drawn towards.”
Wedding Styling Details & Design Approach
Sophie’s approach centred on depth and layering throughout:
- Draped linens and textured fabrics
- Layered table settings
- Soft candlelight
- Tonal glassware and tableware
- Statement backdrop styling
- Elevated plinth styling and seasonal fruit
“Rather than everything matching perfectly, the aim was to create a collected and curated feel with contrast in materials and texture. This helps wedding styling feel more personal, editorial and immersive.”
Current Barn Wedding Styling Trends We’re Seeing
Sophie shared the styling trends coming up most often with couples at the moment:
- Textured tablescapes rather than minimal styling
- Draping and fabric installations to soften large spaces
- Tonal colour palettes with depth – olive greens, soft neutrals, deep burgundy accents
- Architectural floral designs with movement
- Romantic candlelit styling
- Layered place settings and elevated table detail
- A move away from traditional wedding styling towards a more fashion and interiors-led aesthetic
A Stunning Architectural Barn
“One of the things we loved most about styling Spring Barn at The Harty Estate was the balance between the clean architectural backdrop and the warmth that the styling elements introduced. The scale of the space worked beautifully for larger visual moments like draping and statement tablescapes, whilst still allowing intimate details to stand out on camera.”
