The Saltings certainly makes a lasting first impression. Step through the door and the space opens up – double-height ceilings, picture windows, and a galleried landing that looks out over the dining table below. It’s the kind of architecture that uses its heritage well.
Six ensuite bedrooms sleeping twelve or more, with an open-plan layout that feels genuinely spacious but never loses its warmth. A barn, yes – but one that feels completely like home....
Inside The Saltings
Impressive the moment you walk in, comfortable and homely every moment after. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area has a long, banquet-style dining table at its heart, a fully equipped kitchen with everything a large group needs, and a comfy U-shaped huddle of sofas around a Smart TV for cosy evenings in. Exposed beams and warm woods nod to the building’s past without making a fuss of it.
Six ensuite bedrooms, each available as a double or twin, are spread across both floors. One ground floor bedroom has an accessible wet room, making The Saltings a practical and comfortable choice for multigenerational groups or guests with mobility needs.
Outdoor Living
The enclosed garden sits behind the cottage, overlooking the fields. Sun loungers, outdoor furniture and a BBQ fire pit make it a natural place to end the day – and with a large group stay, there’s always someone who wants to keep the evening going.
The cottages’ shared games room with pool table, table tennis and foosball is a short walk away whenever it’s wanted.
Food At The Saltings
The Saltings open plan Kitchen is a dream for self-catered stays, with everything you need to cook delicious meals served up on the impressive banquet-style dining table.
If you’d rather take a break from the cooking, our Harty Estate chefs can prepare food to be delivered straight to the cottage, including brunch platters, grazing tables, and hearty traybakes made with estate-grown produce, farm beef and the best of Kent.
For special celebrations, why not see if we can offer private dining or one our estate event spaces, just a short walk from the cottage. From time to time we also open the estate for pop-up dining occasions, so it’s worth seeing if there’s one on during your stay.
Dog Friendly
The Saltings is dog friendly, with an enclosed garden and a pup welcome pack on arrival. Our two-acre exercise field is free to use for all cottage guests. Fenced and secure with agility play equipment, simply book a slot in advance and watch your dog enjoy the Harty great outdoors safely.
Location
The Saltings sits within The Harty Estate on the Isle of Harty – a corner of Kent that feels a long way from anywhere, in the best possible sense. Big skies, open marshland and working farmland stretch out in every direction, with wildlife and birds of prey a constant presence.
Walking and cycling trails run right by the estate – the Isle of Harty Trail, the Kent Coastal Path and routes through the Swale Nature Reserve are all close by, with the beaches at Leysdown and Shellness within easy reach. Wider Kent is there whenever you’re ready for it.
Part Of Somthing Bigger
The Saltings is a characterful cottage at Mocketts Farm, part of The Harty Estate. It can be booked on its own, or alongside the other cottages for up to 53 guests. The estate also hosts weddings, private celebrations and corporate retreats.
