Glowing Barns + Winter Charm

Winter is the unsung hero of wedding seasons – and The Harty Estate in winter glows.

Illuminated barns, blazing fires, the wide estuary landscape shifting through every kind of winter light. The barns are at their most characterful in a soft winter glow. It’s a different experience to a summer wedding, and for many couples, just the kind of rich and atmospheric celebration they’re looking for.

One exclusive venue, two barns to choose from…

Winter Wedding Ceremonies

You'll find the Hop Barn wonderfully atmospheric in winter - fairy lights strung through oak beams, exposed brick and Kentish hops overhead. Four sets of French doors let in the soft winter light and estuary views. Beautiful as it is or styleable as you wish, picture a candle lit aisle, winter foliage and winter colour palettes.

Spring Barn pulls the winter sky in through its large estuary-facing windows - low light, waterside aspect and a cathedral-like ceiling rising overhead. The barn's fully adjustable lighting lets you set exactly the right mood for your ceremony, from soft and glowy to something altogether more dramatic.

The Spaces

A Fireside Drinks Reception

In winter, the drinks reception is in The Ferry House - the estate's 16th-century private pub. With fires going, your toasting drinks are served from a fireside table. Mulled wine and winter Pimms make for a lovely seasonal serve, alongside a full bar of Kentish wines, beers, spirits and big-brand favourites. With striking beams, period features and Kentish hops, it's everything a lively rustic country inn should be, with a relaxed, celebratory atmosphere to match. Could there be anywhere better on a winter afternoon?

Winter Feasting

Winter afternoons are made for a long wedding breakfast. The barns are cosy, the food is hearty and the outside chill feels a long way away. Our award-winning chefs put together menus that make the most of the season, with dishes built around produce from the family farm, estate, and Kitchen Garden, which keeps growing through the colder months thanks to our polytunnels.

Wedding Food & Drink

Evening Vibes

When the tables are cleared, the evening shifts up a gear. In Spring Barn, the in-room bar, lounge and dancefloor make it a proper party space - and the courtyard fireplace is burning just outside. In the Hop Barn, the fairy lights, warm tones and Ferry House bar make for a night with real atmosphere.

Warming evening food is laid out for guests to graze - choose from among a Kentish hog roast, stone-baked pizzas, fajitas and more, all made with the same care as everything else that comes out of our kitchen. And when the night is at its darkest, a sparkler wedding arch with your nearest and dearest is a moment to remember.

Stay the Night

After a winter wedding at The Harty Estate, there's no need to brave the cold. Our guest rooms and estate cottages sleep up to 75 guests - cosy, comfortable and right on the estate. Wake up the following morning, and enjoy breakfast together, extending your celebrations a little longer.

Christmas Weddings

The most wonderful time of the year? December at The Harty Estate is something special. The barns are dressed with enormous Christmas trees, and you can have a lot of fun with festive styling — the rustic barns are a natural fit for rich winter colours, candlelight and all the trimmings. Round it off with mulled wine and a DJ playlist that leans into the season and you have a wedding day that feels like the best kind of Christmas party.

And then there’s New Year’s Eve – perhaps our favourite wedding of the year. There’s something deeply symbolic about ringing in a brand new year as a newly married couple.
